How to Setup RAID 0 and 1 in Windows 10 Heres a Full Guide

Do you want to know more differences between RAID 0 vs RAID 1? This post tells you the answer and helps you make a wise choice. Windows 7 Error 0x b may appear due to incorrect BIOS settings. Change them correctly to solve the problem.

Ok, so you've seen the "Windows 7 was my idea" commercials on TV where they hammer the window "snap" feature to death. Well that might be great, but I'm going to show you something that will ACTUALLY help you.

This disk combination is often used by professionals or enterprises to manage different data in different drives. Windows has built in functionality to set up a software RAID without any additional tools. This makes it easy to turn your existing spare hard drives into massive storage or even redundant backups. In this example we are going to set up a spanned disk that takes three 2 GB disks and creates one 6 GB disk using Windows 7 Professional. Another important thing you need to do is to make sure you back up all of your data on the hard drives. This is because all the data on the hard disks will be erased during the RAID setup.

As others have said, first check all connections. Then check the HDD for mechanical or surface failures. If all checks out, check for malware on the PC.

Launch the MiniTool software to enter its main interface, right-click the dynamic disk that you want to create the striped volume or mirrored volume, and select Create Volume. With MiniTool Partition Wizard, you can not only create a striped volume but a mirrored volume easily. In addition, this program can help you move/resize, or extend volume if you need. Here’s how to setup RAID 0/1 using the MiniTool software. Then Windows 10 will check all hard drives installed on your computer and select the disks that you want to use for setting up RAID 1 Windows 10 and click on Create pool.

Over my years of doing this i have seen computers that were running fine, shut down moved and start up in a failure mode. If this was my issue to solve I would reseat all connectors and go from that point forward. In Windows they don’t call their RAID options by the traditional 0, 1, 5, 10 etc. Instead they use spanned, striped, and mirrored as the options for creating software RAIDs.

How to create software raid 1

There are different standard levels of RAID setups, including RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 0+1, RAID 3, RAID 4, RAID 5, RAID 6, RAID 7, and RAID 10. Among them, the most frequently asked question is how to setup RAID 0 and RAID 1 in Windows 10. So, here we will start with introducing the definition and prerequisites of RAID 0 and RAID 1.

If you browse to Windows explorer you should also see that the new volume has the combined storage space of the three individual disks used to create it. As you might know, Windows 10 provides the “Storage Spaces” utility to configure the RAID drives. This tool can help you combine 3 or more drives into a storage pool. It is a software-configured RAID setup in OS.

The Storage Spaces feature built into Windows allows you to combine multiple hard drives into a single virtual drive. It can mirror data across multiple drives for redundancy, or combine multiple physical drives into a single pool of storage. Storage Spaces is similar to RAID or LVM on Linux. I RAID 1 all of our physical disks with a hot spare. What this means is that when one disk fails, the RAID fails over, rebuilds with the hot spare and I am notified.

For a better experience, please enable JavaScript in your browser before proceeding. Expand your computer name and the faulty drive. The best way to identify a faulty drive is a yellow cross before its name.

What Is a RAID Setup

Any disk you want included in your RAID you need to delete them from the top area of disk management. And get a daily digest of news, geek trivia, and our feature articles. Also, this might not be the tech's fault as it could have been caused by a problem when it was first being hooked up again like a loose power cord during the first boot. Often on Dell systems there is a utility called the Intel Rapid Storage Technology manager. It will run in the toolbar and show the status of the array, if it is rebuilding just leave it alone and it will eventually finish. If it shows that the other drive has failed then you can safely disconnect it until a replacement can be acquired. A mirrored volume and RAID 5 both have some redundancy but you lose storage space to create the parity files needed for recovery. For this example we are going to go with the simplest volume type and create a spanned volume even though it isn’t technically RAID.

Click on Yes in the UAC window when you’re prompted to access this app. As DigitalGoat posted in post #8, the first thing that is going to happen when you enable the RAID switch is that both drives will be erased. Don't worry about which actual "Physical" disk is involved in this stuff. Your "E" drive is being mirrored properly.
